Townsville General Practice Network

The role of the Nurse in general practice is diverse and varied and an integral part of the General Practice team. TGPN recognises the important contribution practice nurses make within the primary healthcare sector and aims to support the role of nurses working in general practice by providing access to education and professional development, assistance with Government initiatives, and assistance in chronic disease management.

There is a practice nurse network that meets every second month that all practice nurses are welcome to attend. Contact TGPN for further information. The terms of reference for these meetings can be found here

AGPN Practice Nurse Survey 2007

In late 2005 The Australian Division of General Practice, subsequently renamed the Australian General Practice Network (AGPN), commissioned TGPN to perform a survey of nursing in General Practice. With the 2007 survey about to commence, we thought a summary of the earlier survey might make interesting reading for our practice nurses. It is available here.

Community Involvement

The practice support program aims to support GPs, practice managers, practice staff and other health professionals working with general practice to improve the quality of care provided to patients. This is achieved through a variety of means including providing information and assistance on accreditation, Enhanced Primary Care and use of the MBS item numbers, PIP, systems management, immunisation, specialised health areas, business management services and resources.

Staff can tailor visits to meet the specific needs of practices as they arise. TGPN have established a practice nurse network and a practice manager network that meet every alternate month. Contact TGPN for further information.
